art foundry

Foundry is the process of metal sculpture. Working with the lost-wax method, gives us great creative freedom in shape and form. Handling molten metal requires a vast array of experience and expertise in several trades. A team effort is required, in every step.

Our atelier has chosen to incorporate this demanding craft into our repertoire. The mastery of foundry services the design of contemporary furniture both structurally and aesthetically.

Molding:
From a casting, the original master can be produced in wax. The size of the model takes into account the contraction of the bronze while cooling. Chimneys in wax are then added to feed the molten metal into the casting.

Casting mold manufacturing:
The master is evenly coated with a solidifying mineral gangue then heated to over 1000 degrees C ° in a gas oven to remove the wax.

Casting of bronze:
Meanwhile, the bronze ingots are melted for the spectacular moment of casting. The molten bronze is poured from its crucible filling the incandescent mold.

Cleaning and carving:
After two weeks of cooling the mold is broken to reveal the raw form. Then the craftsman perfects the surface during the carving process. With a small chisel he eliminates the defects and barbules on the surface of the casted piece.

Patina:
The patina gives the final appearance. The bronze is exposed to a chemical product and is heated with a blowtorch, providing the material with its characteristic hue.
